INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Fedora Core 5&6 Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux is recommended for use with this version.
1. Copy the OpenBaseLinux_root.tar file to a temporary directory on your hard drive. You can do this using the following commands:
# cp OpenBase10.0.11_Linux/OpenBaseLinux_root.tar /tmp
2. Then unpack the package in the root directory. Do this using the following commands:
# cd /
# tar -xf /tmp/OpenBaseLinux_root.tar
3. Add the following line to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file. This will make the OpenBase processes startup at runtime.
/home/OpenBase/bin/openexec &
/home/OpenBase/bin/openmonitor &
4. Install Java JDK1.5 for Linux. This is available at the sun website.
5. Edit the /etc/profile file to include the path of your Java 1.5.1 system. Here is the line you can include when your JDK is installed in /root.
export PATH=$PATH:/root/jdk1.5.1_01/bin
6. Run OpenBase Manager from MacOS X to register your license remotely or run the /home/OpenBase/bin/registration program. You must have a valid OpenBase License.
Registration Program: If you use the registration program to generate the license and must be connected to the internet and logged in as the root user. Otherwise this application will fail (silently).
OpenBase Manager registration: You will need to first reboot the Linux computer and then connect remotely using the OpenBase Manager. Use the OpenBase Manager preferences panel to change the settings (including license) for the remote Linux computer. This is the preferred method.
7. Reboot.
OpenBase for Linux installs into /home/OpenBase. It is important that your Linux computer has enough free space to accommodate the databases that you plan to run on your computer. We generally recommend that you make sure there is at least 500MB free in the /home partition.
